About Me

I was born and brought up in Wallingford, Oxfordshire and still find time to visit frequently from my home in Sussex.

My background is in music and education, with the creative arts being central to my life.  I have spent decades making things for family, friends and charity, and my creativity has helped me through many difficult times.

The title of Fibre Artist is, however, something I never expected.

Becoming a ‘visual artist’ is a new direction for me, one that began just a few years ago, with a tiny bird!  A gift from a dear friend led from a tiny felted Robin, into the realms of ‘Painting with Wool’.

And what a journey it continues to be!!

I do not limit myself to a single subject, preferring instead to practise skills within a variety of themes.

Although the natural world is my overarching guide.

Each work begins with a photograph of a landscape, a park, a beach, perhaps even a single flower.

Something familiar and meaningful. Something that draws me in, often reminding me of days spent with family and friends.

As a self-taught artist, I would describe myself as learning ‘on the job.’ Spending hours researching and working with fibres, seeing how they can create new patterns and impressions through felting. I also attend training courses with established artists, to continue broadening my techniques and skills.

And – why do I do it?

Well, I love the process.

It is slow and peaceful.

It steadies and calms me.

It challenges and teaches me at every turn.
